February Recap

Here’s what I’ve been up to for the past month:

I went on a lil theater/house concert tour (shows in Kingston, Perth, Ottawa, and Montreal) with Jaron Freeman-Fox and the opposite of everything.

And then I headed off to British Columbia and performed some shows in Prince Rupert, Prince George and Smithers with Emilyn Stam. Here’s some pics from Prince Rupert:

La Mama New York

Emjohn2Fresh back from New York City, where the Lemon Bucket Orkestra performed as part of a theatre production at the legendary experimental theatre La Mama. “Midwinter Night: Sacred and Profane Rituals”

The show, which is based on very old Ukrainian Christmas and Winter Solstice rituals, culminates in a sort of cabaret variety show. Here’s Emilyn Stam and I performing some of our duo music as part of this segment.

And some new freinds: Bandura player Julian Kytasty, Cellist Paul Brantley, and an ensemble of folk musicians from the Carpathian mountains.

NewTrad2Wow! What a crazy year of music and adventure! Some highlights: Blissfest in Northern Michigan, Blue Skies festival in Claredon, and Northern Lights Festival in Sudbury with the Boxcar Boys, Sound Symposium in St. John’s Newfoundland and Folk Alliance in Memphis with Jaron Freeman-Fox, two big ol’ Eastern Europe tours (Romania, Serbia, Hungary, Macedonia, Slovacia, Czech Republic, Germany)  with the Lemon Bucket Orkestra, and of course plenty o’ fun in Toronto the good! Two CD Releases – Lemon Bucket’s “Lume, Lume” and Boxcar Boys’ “Rye Whiskey”. I’ll be sure to keep you updated with the ongoing adventure in 2013.

Here’s a pic from the Roofhoppers’ performance at the first annual New Traditions Fest. held on the Toronto Island. Run by some really great folks and sure to be blast again next summer.
